  53. Problem(s) this Update Resolves:
  54. ================================
  55. When you are starting Windows 95 OSR2, OSR2.1, or OSR2.5 on a computer with an
  56. AMD-K6-2 processor running at speeds of 350 MHz and above, you may receive one
  57. of the following error messages:
  58.  
  59.    Device IOS failed to initialize. Windows Protection Error.
  60.    You must reboot your computer.
  61.  
  62.    Windows Protection Error. You must reboot your computer.
  63.  
  64. The first error is a result of a divide exception in IOS.VXD, the second is due
  65. to a similar error within ESDI_506.PDR or SCSIPORT.PDR.
  66.  
  67. This problem is very intermittent at 350MHz, but occurs more often at higher
  68. speeds. Note that it is necessary to reboot the computer after the error occurs.
  69. If the error does not occur, the system will run normally.
  70.  
  71. Additionally, if you are using Microsoft Backup to back up data to certain models
  72. of floppy disk drives, you may receive the following error messages:
  73.  
  74.    Warning: Tape needs to be erased before operation can proceed.
  75.  
  76.    Microsoft Backup unable to read from the disk or network drive. Quit and
  77.    restart Backup, and then try again.
  78.  
  79.    Warning: This operation has been canceled by the system.

  87. How to Install:
  88. ===============
  89. 1. Copy the file AMDK6UPD.EXE into an empty folder, and run AMDK6UPD.EXE 
  90.    to install the update.
  91.  
  92. 2. You may be warned that you are about to replace a newer file with an
  93.    older version of the file.  Generally, you should the keep the newer
  94.    file, and choose not to replace it with an older file.
  95.  
  96. 3. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
  97.  
  98. How to Uninstall:
  99. =================
  100. 1. Using Windows Explorer, locate the file AMDK6_UN.INF in the Windows\INF\QFE
  101.    folder, right-click on the file AMDK6_UN.INF, and choose Install.
  102.  
  103. 2. You will be prompted for the Windows 95 installation CD or diskettes.
  104.    Choose the appropriate path.
  105.  
  106. 3. You may be prompted to replace the newer file with an older version of
  107.    the file.  To uninstall this update, choose to Replace the newer file.
  108.  
  109. 4. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
